Frequently asked questions

Viable Waste Solutions Logo

What types of waste do you take?

We take all types of non-hazardous waste. Common examples include:

  • Builders/ DIY waste – like old kitchen and bathroom furnishings, drywall, doors
  • Bric-a-brac & general bulky junk – boxes, books, tools, clothes, toys, packaging materials
  • Furniture – sofa, mattress, armchair, cupboard, filing cabinets
  • Garden refuse – branches, cut grass, leaves, soil, old pots, garden furniture
  • Wood – all types
  • Flooring – underlay, carpet tiles, carpet, laminate
  • Appliances* – like a dishwasher, washing machine, cooker, computer, flat screen TV/monitor, lamp, domestic fridge (Fridges, TVs/monitors,  batteries, paints and certain oils will be subject to a £25 Hazardous Consignment note fee)

For regulatory and health & safety reasons, we CANNOT remove hazardous waste like asbestos, petrol, diesel, gas bottles, clinical or biological waste. If you have hazardous waste you need to get rid of, we can advise you, or recommend contacting your local council for hazardous waste disposal services in your area.

Skip Hire vs. Man & Van – which service is best?

Skip hire is great if you have lots of heavy, messy waste, whereas man & van rubbish clearance is cheaper and easier for more general, bulky waste. Skips are relatively expensive, take up quite a lot of room and you cannot adjust their size once they’ve been delivered.  Man & van rubbish removal is comparatively much cheaper, the size can be adjusted on the day and is normally available on much shorter notice.  In our experience, customers who haven’t used man & van rubbish clearance service before are very pleasantly surprised by how easy and cheap it ends up being compared to skip hire.

Disposal & recycling – what happens to the waste after you remove it?

All our waste is taken to licensed commercial recycling facilities and disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner. We take pride in being one of the first waste carriers in Gloucestershire that offers a zero to landfill option, meaning every item you dispose of is either re-used, repurposed or recycled, and our environment is preserved, ensuring our future is bright and beautiful for future generations.

Documentation requirements

Non-hazardous waste is covered by a generic Duty of Care Waste Transfer Note. This contains details of the waste producer and waste receiver, as well as information regarding the type and volume of waste.

If you have any reason to believe that some or all of the waste is hazardous, a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note must be completed. This enables those handling, managing and disposing of the waste to do so safely and appropriately. Broadly speaking, hazardous waste is any type of waste which is dangerous to humans or to the environment. Common types of hazardous waste include:

Batteries, Asbestos, Solvents, paints, brake fluids and similar, Fridges, Pesticides, Oils and certain plastics (POPS -  Persistent Organic Pollutants )

These types of waste need to be dealt with professionally.

How much can we take

Our vans have a capacity of 14 cubic Yards, or 11.3 cubic metres which is more than a builders skip can hold. They can carry one ton of waste at a time - and for a better price.

How do I book?

To make a booking, just email us on our website contact form and we will get back to you, or if you would prefer you can call us to book. We operate Monday - Friday and we can collect your waste at a time that suits you best, even if you aren't at home.
